July 26th – Hypersonics, Tour of UTARI Labs
UTARI is the Research Institute for the University of Texas at Arlington
Welcome Remarks from Eileen Clements, PhD, oversees the research program at UTARI spanning the areas of biomedical technologies, robotics and automation, and the performance prediction of materials and structures. She leads the research staff in developing partnerships with industry and other academic institutions to drive the development of technologies towards commercialization. She also manages the overall operation of the Institute, working closely with the business development, financial, facilities, and grant administration units to promote and support the projects, researchers, faculty, and students at UTARI. https://utari.uta.edu/about/staff-directory/eileen-clements/
Featured Speaker: PhD. The group interest is in the area of experimental gas dynamics. The research is focused on two main areas: (1) Fundamental investigations of injection, mixing and combustion in high-speed flows, and their application to hypersonic air-breathing propulsion; (2) Hypersonic aerothermodynamics, Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) and efficient thermal management strategies for hypersonic vehicles. Our work is primarily experimental, but it is supported by numerical and analytical studies, which serve as a guide for the experimental activity and constitute the basis for the interpretation and modeling of the resulting flow-physics. https://maddalenagroup.uta.edu/bio.php

May 11th – The United States Space Force and International Law Applicable to Military Space Operations
The United States Space Force and International Law Applicable to Military Space Operations
Meeting/Mixer Details:
When: Wednesday, May 11, 2022
Where: ProSource Industries
Please join us the evening of May 11th to hear from Mr. Michael Hoversten, Chief of Space, International and Operations Law Division, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Space Operations Command at Peterson Air Force Base, CO.
The United States Space Force (USSF) was established as the nation’s newest military service on December 20, 2019 within the Department of the Air Force (DAF). Designed to be lean and agile, the USSF focusses on developing and presenting space capabilities to the warfighter while relying on the DAF for support functions including logistics, base operating support, civilian personnel management, business systems, IT support, audit agencies, etc. Mr. Hoversten’s portion of the presentation will address the reasons for the establishment of the USSF, its mission, and its organizational structure.
Some have likened outer space to the Wild, Wild West – a lawless expanse where anything goes, including when it comes to military operations. While international law is quite permissive when it comes to military use of outer space, it is anything but a lawless domain. There is an entire body of international law specifically applicable to outer space and that body of law makes the UN Charter and Law of Armed Conflict applicable in outer space. This portion of the presentation includes a synopsis of international space law and international law applicable to military space operations.

Summary:
The recent pandemic has indicated an unanticipated fragility in our nation’s manufacturing supply chain. An aggressive push towards reshoring American manufacturing requires efforts across a spectrum of policy, laws, universities, trades and infrastructure enabling expansion, leadership and speed for our nation’s defense industrial base of small and medium sized manufacturers.
In this first-of-its-kind event, we are bringing together key stakeholders across all levels of government. Join us as we view the entire manufacturing ecosystem from multiple perspectives and explore actionable ideas with the goal to remake America’s manufacturing base into a hyper-connected, secure, and resilient ecosystem of domestic suppliers who can more easily connect and interact.
