August Cole
Topic: Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy
We are living in a moment in which the technologies of science fiction are becoming real. It is not an overstatement to say that the emergence of AI and its application to ever-more capable and autonomous robotics will be one of the most important — and combustible — societal transformations of not just our times, but overall human history. August Cole, the co-author of Ghost Fleet: A Novel of the Next World War, will discuss these trends, what they mean for the future of defense and security, and his latest futuristic novel, Burn-In: A Novel of the Real Robotic Revolution (out May 26, 2020). Already, Burn-In has garnered a unique set of early endorsements in the national security community, including former heads of CIA, NSA, US Navy, SOCOM, the Marine Corps, and NATO, among others. Burn-In also connects to a number of key issues coming out of the Coronavirus pandemic. While the trends it explores were already in play, recent events and data show a drastic acceleration is underway.
